Britdozo Doula

Hi! I’m Brit Cardozo Lease (she/her/hers). I became a doula because of the belief that all birthing people deserve to have an empowered birth, filled with love. Through evidence-based methods, I provide clients with caring support throughout their pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum weeks and months.

Birth work is social justice. I welcome, support, and advocate for all races, gender identities, abilities, body types, religions, cultures, and ethnicities.

What is a doula and why should I have one?

Doulas are trained birth professionals who support birthing people, partners and babies during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.

Doulas are non-medical birth workers who provide support on many levels including:

  • Physical: massage, touch and positioning suggestions to ease the sensations of labor
  • Emotional: reassurance, calming breath support, compassion, encouragement and empowerment
  • Educational: evidence-based research about common medical terms and procedures that frequently come up during pregnancy, labor and immediately after birth
  • Advocacy: facilitate communication and ensure that you are heard, empowered and have informed choice and consent for yourself and your baby at all times

I will listen to the hopes you have for your birth and support you in achieving those goals. I have supported home births, caesarean births, and everything in-between. It’s your birth and your baby. My top priority is to support you safely and compassionately through every step of the journey.

Doulas are Angels

They (doulas) are angels! I couldn’t have a successful delivery if they were not around. Helped a lot with the breathing techniques and supportive advice and ideas.

Supported, Prepared, Empowered

Brit made us feel supported, prepared and empowered for labor and delivery. She helped us run through so many potentials that we hadn’t even considered and encouraged us to visualize our birth preferences, while staying open minded and flexible to options that would ultimately lead to our goal of delivering a healthy baby. Brit is also really in tune with physically providing comfort to a laboring person by offering positions and adjustments that help ease contractions.

A Calm Presence

We are so glad that Brit was the doula for the birth of our first child! Her calm presence was such a gift, and she also provided the information that I needed to help me advocate for myself with medical professionals. Brit was the perfect fit for our family!

Birth Blessing

by Natalie Evans

Close your eyes and breathe deep
Breathe in peace, breathe out pain
Imagine your feet
Toes curling into dirt
Think of yourself as rooted
Think of your place in the earth
How did you come to be here?
Through generations of women named
A maternal lineage
That brought you to this place
Think of their birth stories
What you know, what you believe to be true
Realize that their births carry deep wisdom
Some may carry the memory of joy and transcendence
Each birth is a powerful experience
Each birth traces down to you.
Just as you pass this knowledge on to your baby
Understand that your birth is your own
It will be different from all others
Like the swirls in your thumb
Your birth will have a unique pattern
Unfolding with each contraction
Rising and falling like a newborn’s chest
This birth belongs to you
This birth is an opening
This birth is the end and a beginning
May this blessing of birth come to you without fear
May this blessing of birth come to you with great understanding
My this blessing of birth make your heart soar
May this blessing of birth bring shouts of delight to your lips
Blessings to you and your birth

About Me

I became a doula in 2020 and have worked actively with private clients as well as volunteering with the Denver Health Doula Program. I went on to become a lactation consultant and a full-spectrum doula, supporting families from pre-conception through postpartum. My years of working as a teacher, a yoga instructor and raising my own three children, have instilled me with compassionate care, an intuitive nature, and a desire to help each birthing person meet their new baby feeling cared for and supported.

I was born and raised on Colorado’s front range and I currently live in Golden, CO with my husband, three sons, two cats, and one dog. When not working as a doula, I spend my time practicing yoga, urban homesteading, reading, and enjoying the great outdoors that Colorado has to offer with family and friends.

I am fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
